La Familia is the primary training site for residents in the Northern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program (NNFMRP). This program is part of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Family Medicine training program. Resident physicians in this 1+2 training program spend their first year in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico Medical Center. The last two years of their training are based at La Familia, CHRISTUS St Vincent Medical Center, and with other Santa Fe clinics and specialists. Since its beginning in 1998, NNFMRP and La Familia have trained many Family Medicine physicians of whom the majority have remained in New Mexico to work.
