Brindle Foundation Makes Multi-year Grant to LFMC
Brindle has awarded La Familia Medical Center a three-year grant of $200,000 to support the Maternal and Infant Health program.
A portion of the expanded funding will be used to hire an additional Community Health Worker who can make home visits to expectant mothers who, for a variety reasons, could be considered high risk. The OB team is also planning to offer more parent education to prospective parents.

Walmart Grant of $50,000 Expands Dental Care to Uninsured
La Familia received a $50,000 grant from the Walmart State Giving Program. The funding will allow additional services to dental patients who need restorative services, such as a crown, but cannot afford them.
La Familia Dental Clinic uninsured patients can pay on a sliding scale for their regular check ups and cleanings but more extensive care often is beyond their ability to pay. Because of this grant, more patients will get the care they need. Full Story
La Familia Provides Diabetes Education and Nutrition Information for OB Outreach
On November 21, Mall Walkers and others at Santa Fe Place will have access to health counseling in a variety of areas. As part of OB Outreach Month, LFMC OB staff and Registered Dietition will be available to provide guidance to pregnant women on the importance of healthy eating during pregnancy and other important topics.
A Certified Diabetes Educator will offer information on diabetes management.
Community Health Educators will discuss La Familia's anti-obesity program "CENA" with any interested parties and take Body Mass Index measurements.

Con Alma Heath Foundation Funds Wellness Efforts
The Con Alma Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to La Familia Medical Center to support the REACH program. REACH is a national program to address racial and ethnic health disparities in minority populations. In Santa Fe County La Familia is coordinating the program and leading a team of organizations and governmental entitites who are working to eliminate food deserts and barriers to active lifestyles .

La Familia Supports SF Walkers
A new walking club is exercising every morning at the Santa Fe Place Mall. The walkers begin as early as 7:00 a.m.
In order to support and encourage their efforts, La Familia is sending staff members on the 4th Thursday of the month to provide blood pressure checks, nutritional counseling and other services that will vary each month. Among free services to be offered in October will be flu shots, Body Mass Index readings and information on the LFMC's anti-obesity program.

Buckaroo Ball Funds Dental Outreach
We are pleased to announce that the Buckaroo Ball has chosen to support La Familia Medical Center's Dental Outreach Program!! La Familia dentists go into the public schools to provide education and screening to elementary students as well as follow up care if needed.

LFMC Receives CDC Grant to Address Health Disparities
On March 1, 2013 La Familia received notification of an award of $148,000 from the Centers for Disease Control. The goal of program (REACH Su Communidad Consortium) is to fund a community-wide effort to improve the overall health and wellness of Hispanics/Latinos and other minority populations in five states.
La Familia (a sub-recipient under Hidalgo Medical Services in Silver City) will lead the effort in Santa Fe County and will be joined by a Community Leadership Team made up of grocers, farmers, nutritionists and public employees who are engaged in efforts at the City and State to impr... Full Story
